GeneralClose•Posted by46 minutes agoI am making a 5 part film serial and I'm stressing

GeneralOkay, I just need to get this off my chest. So, background information. For 2 years now I've been working on this 5 part serial, and I am just having a panic attack on 2 things.
1: Will this series even be made?
2: Will it even be good?
This is hands down my biggest project thus far. From me going from zero budget films to a film serial that may cost me a couple thousand dollars. And these things are making me stressed. Just wanted to get this off my chest.

Weird question: crossing the line

•Weird question: crossing the line

DiscussionClose•Posted by49 minutes agoWeird question: crossing the line

DiscussionOkay, so this question isn't actually about crossing the line, I understand the concept very well, but I don't know what else to title the question, as it is somewhat related to “the line” concept.
So, here's the weird question:
Firstly, let's say you are specifically shooting a scene between two characters stood on either side of an open door. Someone knocks on the front door of a house and someone inside opens it and they talk.
You cut back and forth between two over-the-shoulder shots, and of course, you keep the camera on the correct side of the line for each shot (whatever side it happens to be that you chose).
The “weird” part that I want to know about, is the hinge of the actual door. Should you block your camera positions with this in mind?
So many of these scenes that we've all seen a million times (as described above), I noticed th..

What Should I Do?

•What Should I Do?

QuestionClose•Posted by1 hour agoWhat Should I Do?

QuestionI'm a rising senior in high school. My dream is to be a writer/director.
I'm at a point in my life where I feel like the path I take will influence my future greatly, and I want to have the best chance at achieving my goal. I would also like to stress that the way the film industry works is foreign to me, and I don't know how realistic this goal is. Stealing a quote from Socrates: “I know that I do not know anything.” Anyways:
My dream to write professionally has been with me for several years now, and my dream to direct has been with me for an even longer time.
Thus far, I've written and edited a 200-page novel manuscript extensively, put together a couple of 50-page screenplays, have written dozens of short stories, filmed a few shorts, consumed hundreds of movies and dozens of books critically, and have extensively analyzed storytelling through critical writing and my own self-study..

QuestionPlans to produce a low/no budget short and looking to team up with others in the area. Specifically a DP, Editor as well as other roles. Based about 45 minutes north of NYC. Is this a good forum for this kind of networking?

Refocusing career to post: most marketable skills?

•Refocusing career to post: most marketable skills?

QuestionClose•Posted by37 minutes agoRefocusing career to post: most marketable skills?

QuestionHi all, I’d love some advice. I’ve been working full time in video production/post for about 13 years, and I’ve worked in every department for at least a few days. I’m in the process of pivoting my business to be exclusively post production. I’m a solid editor and a decent colorist, and over the years I’ve had to do a fair amount of graphic design, motion graphics, and some 3D for various projects.
I’ll be spending the next year working to build my skillset and create a new reel, and I’m just wondering: where in your post workflow do you find yourself saying, “I wish I could find a dependable sub who’s great at xyz.” Thanks for your input!
